Visit the Douglas County Historical Society (DCHS), located in the historic residence of Senator Knute Nelson, and take a step back in time to learn about early settlers and visitors to the area. The house has been restored, and has many of the original furnishings. The Douglas County Historical Society also maintains Spruce Hill Lutheran Church which dates back to 1881. Traditional Easter and Christmas services and a mid-summer hymn fest are held each year.
Inspiration Peak

In the southern part of Otter Tail County is a collection of glacial features known as the Leaf Hills. The highest among them is Inspiration Peak, just west of Urbank. It rises 1,750 feet, about 400 feet above the surrounding countryside making it the highest point in the county and one of the highest points in the state of Minnesota.
Lake Carlos State Park

Early settlers drifted into the area after the signing of the Traverse des Sioux treaty in 1851. This treaty opened much of central Minnesota to white settlement. Alexander and William Kinkaid settled at the junction between Lake Agnes and Lake Winona, the area that was to become the town of Alexandria. During the U.S./Dakota conflict of 1862, most of the settlers moved east to Sauk Centre and St. Cloud, but returned to the area later that year. During the Great Depression, the state purchased the land that became Lake Carlos State Park in 1937.

Carlos Creek Winery

Carlos Creek Winery was founded in 1997, and the doors to the winery were officially opened in July of 1999. There are 160 acres of land, of which 10 acres are dedicated vineyards and 15 acres are planted to 22 different varieties of apples. Carlos Creek Winery is located within Minnesota’s federally recognized viticultural area.
